“브라질에 있는 한 나비의 날갯짓이 텍사스에 토네이도를 발생시킬 수도 있다”

이 곡은 텍스트를 읽고 나의 머릿속에 떠오른 몇 가지의 대표적인 이미지들을 바탕으로 작곡 되었다. 나비효과와 관련된 내용 중 “미세한 변화가 아주 큰 변화를 초래할 수 있다” 나비효과 의 이론 중 초기 조건에의 민감한 의존성의 ‘민감성’ 이라는 부분과, 카오스 이론 중 ‘외관상으 로 보기에는 무작위하게 보이는 것들도 그것의 움직임을 지배하는 법칙이 존재 한다’는 내용 은 내가 이 곡을 작곡하는 과정에서 새로운 소리를 찾고 만들어 가는 것에 중요한 아이디어와 음악적 요소가 되었다.

작품해설(영문)

“The flap of wings of a butterfly in Brazil might ultimately cause a tornado in Texas” stated Edward Norton Lorenz.

With several images emerging right into my mind as I cite this phrase, I composed Butterfly Effect II for Orchestra.

In fact, there were two great ideas that inspired me. One is the Butterfly Effect, the idea that “a subtle change can lead to a life-altering change,” which connotes ‘the sensitive dependence on initial conditions.’ The other is the Chaos Theory, which describes a con- dition that is ‘seemingly random, but with a law that governs its movement.' These two served as important ideas and musical elements that guided me through my journey ex- ploring and creating new sounds.
