이 곡은 서울 바로크합주단의 위촉 작품으로 1983년 봄에 완성되어 그해 10월에 동 합주단에 의하여 초연된 곡이다. 이 작품은 비교적 넓은 음역과 풍부한 음량, 악상표현에 있어서의 자유로움, 또한 저취나 평취에 있어서의 부드럽고 아름다운 음색, 역취에서의 장쾌한 갈대청의 음을 지닌 대금과 폭넓은 표현력을 지닌 서양 현악기 합주와의 조화의 가능성을 모색한, 이질적인 두 개의 악기 군과의 융합을 시도한 작품이다. 이 곡은 비교적 단순한 음 구조로 되어 있으며, 종적인 조화와 선적인 대화를 통한 소협주곡의 형태로 이루어져 있다.

Concertino for Taegum and String Ensemble was written in 1983 commissioned by the Korean Chamber Ensemble. This music, consisting of a single movement, has a simple tone structure and a mood of Oriental atmosphere. The tones are applied vertically and linearly with contrasting dynamics, spacing, tone color, density and so on. This piece pursues the possibilities of expressing beauty in an Oriental idiom combining one of the famous Korean traditional woodwind instruments, the Taegum, and Western string instruments.
