우리민족의 혼이 담긴 조선당대 최고의 악기들은 1900년 파리 만국 박람회에 참가하여 국가적 존재와 우리문화를 서구문명에 소개하게 되었다. 당시 이러한 국악기 16점은 전시가 끝난 후 수송비가 없어 프랑스 정부에 기증되었고 이후, 11개 고악기들의 귀환이 2012년 국립국악원 국악박물관 재개관을 기념한 특별 전시로 112년 만에 이루어졌다. 이 작품은 우리 악기들의 프랑스 파리 만국 박람회로의 여정을 8개의 장면묘사로 스케치되었다: 1. 조선의 “고요한 아침”, 2. “닻을 올리고”, 3. “낯선 곳에 첫발을 내딛고”, 4. “사뿐히 걸어 나가”, 그리고 대한제국을 세계에 드높이는 우리악기들의 역사적 사명감을 5. “힘차게 날아오르다”, 고국으로 돌아가지 못하는 안타까움을, 6. “가시리 가시리잇고(나를 버리고 가시렵니까)”, 마침내 고국으로 귀환한 우리의 고악기들을 맞아들이는 모습을, 7. “닻을 내리고 두 손을 내밀며”, 우리 국악이 세계적으로 더욱 비상하기를 희망하며, 8. “힘차게 높이 날아오르다”로 마무리된다.

Sixteen Korean traditional instruments, which were the best of their kind during the time of the late Joseon dynasty, were selected to participate as an integral part of the Korean exhibit at the Paris International Exposition held in France in 1900. At that time, they introduced our Korean culture and musical instruments, as well as the existence of Joseon as a sovereign country, to the entire world. But after the Exposition, due to the lack of transportation funds, they never made it back to Korea, and were donated to France instead. After 112 years, eleven of the sixteen instruments were finally retuned home to be featured in a two-month exhibit in Seoul. The work describes the journey of the Korean Traditional instruments to the Paris Exposition in France through the images of eight scenes: Scene 1. "Joseon, the land of the morning calm", Scene 2. "up with the anchor in voyages to Paris, France", Scene 3. "set foot on a foreign land ", Scene 4. "walk with a soft tread", Scene 5. "fly strongly in the sky", Scene 6. "Do you really go and throw away me?", Scene 7. "drop the anchor and welcome to homeland and both hands together", Scene 8. fly high and strongly in the sky.

작품평
전인평 : 국악관현악계에 큰 자극을 주는 작품으로 새로운 국악기의 가능성을 여러 가지로 개발한 작품이다. 이제 이귀숙은 국악에 좀 더 풍덩 빠져 보기 바란다. 다음 작품은 보다 더 국악의 향기가 풍기는 작품을 기대하고 싶다.
