우리 민요 ‘옹헤야’는 보리농사를 지을 때, 한 사람이 메기면 여러 사람이 신명 나는 감탄구인 ‘옹헤야’로 힘차게 받으며 도리깨질하는 재미있는 노동요다. 오늘 발표되는 곡은 본인의 2011년도 작품인 ‘옹헤야 패러프레이즈’를 두 번(2012/14)의 개작작업을 거쳐 완성한 것이다. 이 곡에서 옹헤야 가락은 여러 모습으로 변주되고 있으며, 특징적 음정인 완전4도와 단3도는 새로운 모티브를 만들어내기도 하고, 화성음정으로 옹헤야 가락과 함께 사용되기도 한다. 그러나 무엇보다 더불어 즐겁고 흥겨운 음악을 만들고 싶었다.

Ongheya is a traditional work song that used to be sung while threshing barley in rural communities. It progresses with the leader chanting the narrative parts and the rest of the singers responding with the repeated refrain of "ongheya" each time, as if they are engaging in a dialogue. This piece is the result of adpating Ongheya Paraphrase twice, in 2012 and 2014. The original tune of Ongheya is transformed into many variations. The combination of P4 and m3 chords is used to create a new motif and to accompany the original tune of Ongheya as a harmonic interval. However, the main goal was to create a joyful, cheerful piece that can be enjoyed by all.
