이 작품은 2012년 서울창작음악제의 위촉으로 작곡된 타악기 4중주로서 우리나라의 국악장단, 특히 삼도의 대표적인 농악가락들을 다양한 서양 타악기의 음색과 현대적 음악어법으로 새롭게 재구성하여 보았다. 전체적인 구성은 크게 경기 웃다리농악, 호남 우도농악, 영남농악의 특징적인 가락을 중심으로 하는 3부분으로 이루어진다. 3도의 대표적 농악가락들- 쩍쩍이가락, 오채질굿, 길군악과 같은 삼도의 특징적 장단과 다른 여러 장단들이 각자의 개성을 드러내며 차례로 연주되기도 하지만, 때로는 서로 호흡을 맞추면서 동시에 연주하기도 한다. 초연에서 Mbira가 연주한 선율 부분을 이번에는 마림바가 연주한다. 지금부터 가락을 타고 동·서·남이 하나 되어 신명 나는 삼도 여행을 떠나보고자 한다.
작품해설(영문)
This percussion quartet was composed at the request of the Seoul Music Festival in 2012. It is a modern interpretation of Korea's traditional gugak tunes, especially a series of nongak tunes representative of three provinces (Gyeonggi, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang), with Western percussion and contemporary musical language combined to add a new dimension. This piece consists of three sections of Utdari Nongak of Gyeonggi, Udo Nongak of Jeolla, and Nongak of Gyeongsang. The nongak tunes and rhythms representative of the three provinces (namely, jjeokjjeogi, ochaejilgut, and gilgunak) are performed consecutively, fully expressing each distinct individuality, while also performed simultaneously in sync in some parts. The parts performed by an mbira in the premier performance are played by a marimba. Let it take you on an exciting journey to the three provinces through the melodies of nongak.
