팔레트는 회화용 도구로 물감을 늘어놓고 색깔을 확인하거나 거기서 색깔을 서로 섞기
위해 만든 판이다. 화가는 팔레트에서 일정한 원리에 의해 색깔들을 혼합함으로써 원
하는 농도와 색상을 얻게 되며 이를 재료로 하여 자신의 미술적 판타지를 캔버스에 표
현한다. 팔레트는 화가들에게 작품의 제작과정을 거쳐 완성에 이르기까지의 동반자적
역할을 한다는 상징성 때문에 몇몇 화가들의 미술작품에서 중요한 소재로 사용되기도
하였다. 예를 들어 ‘렘브란트’와 ‘폴 세잔’의 자화상에서 그들은 화가로서 자신의 이상을
표현하고자하는 매개체로 그림 한 켠에 팔레트를 그려 넣었고, ‘빈센트 반 고흐’의 ‘작
가의 초상’에서는 화가로서의 자신의 모습과 고뇌를 표현하기 위해 팔레트를 그려 넣
었다. 이러한 그림들 속에 있었던 그들의 팔레트를 보며 느꼈던 여러 심상들을 음악으
로 표현하였다.

A palette is the thin board used by a painter to mix colors. Colors are mixed and blended based on certain principles to reach the desired hues. They are then scattered across the canvas to bring the painter's fantasies into reality. The palette is the painter's companion from the beginning to the end and thus is often used as an important subject matter in many artworks. For instance, Rembrandt and Cezanne painted a palette in one corner of their self-portraits, while Vincent van Gogh also used a palette as a symbol of his agony in Self-Portrait as an Artist. The images that arose after viewing the portrayals of palettes in artworks were translated into musical notes.
