"Ensemble For Strings" was composed for the Seoul chamber Orchestra in 1990.
The composition is based on the Korean traditional balled, Kyong-buk-Kung Taryong, of which only the first phrase appeared at the end of the piece.
Diatonically conceived melodic lines in the composition are interjected by various contrasting diminished chords throughout five sections, played without pause.
The primary concern in the composition is to recreath the spirit of Ask, the Korean Traditional Cour Music, in the sence of twentieth Cenutry, While allowing the freedom of spontaneous expression of the composer.
It was premiered by the Seoul Chamber. Orchestra Conducted by Mr. Yong-yul Kim at Ho- Am art Hall.
