지난 작품을 쓰며 맞닥뜨렸던 자신의 한계와 약점들은, 새 작품을 착수하며 스스로에게 부과하는 과제가 되곤 한다. 이 작품의 경우 그것은 ‘절대음악’과 ‘소재의 금욕성’이었다. 표제적 성격을 갖지 않고, 음색도 주법도 아닌, 오로지 음정과 리듬만의 조합과 유희로 음악을 만들고 싶다는 생각은 자연스레, 최대한 제한된, 가장 가볍고 단순한 소재로부터 출발하게 하였다. 점묘적으로 제시되는 바이올린의 고음역 단음 펄스와, 장, 단3도 + 장7, 단9도로 제시되는 피아노의 스타카토 코드, 그리고 이를 수평적으로 풀어 제시하는 클라리넷의 4음 음군, 이 세가지 소재만을 변용하여 수공예적으로 곡을 진행시켰다.
작품해설(영문)
The limitations and setbacks discovered through previous compositions become the challenges to be overcome with each new project. The challenges faced with this project were the achievement of "absolute music" and "abstinence in materials". The composer focused on creating a piece only by combining and manipulating notes and rhythms without relying on each instrument's tone color and techniques. This naturally led to the pursuit of light, simple, and restrained materials. This piece is handcrafted using the violin's short pulses in the upper register unfolding in a scattered manner; the piano's staccato chords of M3, m3, M7, and m9; and the clarinet's tone cluster made of four notes.
