이 곡은 작곡가의 관점에서 사과의 놓인 모양을 보고 그 형상을 음악적 소재로 삼아 현대적 기법으로 표현을 하고자 한 즉, 작곡가 자신이 추구 하고자 하는 ‘형상음악 작곡기법’에 의한 최초의 작품이다. 3개의 악장으로 구성되었으며 1악장은 한 개의 사과, 2악장은 두 개의 사과, 3악장은 세 개의 사과에 대한 형상을 표현하였으며 각 악장은 사과의 수만큼을 플룻이 연주 할 수 있도록 독주, 이중주, 삼중주로 완성하였다.
작품해설(영문)
“The Apple” is my first attempt to apply my theory of “Configuration
Music” to an actual composition. Configuration music is based on the
idea of analyzing the shape of an object and then translating this
analysis into musical terms. Therefore, this piece consists of three
movements. The first movement uses one flute to express the musical
analysis of one apple. The second movement adds another apple and
another flute. The third movement uses three flutes to express the
shapes of three apples.
“The Apple” is a very condensed piece, in which I attempted to make
use of all ideas I obtained from my analysis. Such duplication would
only be possible in a longer piece.
