This piece, composed for a commission from the Aulos Woodwind Quintet, differs from his Woodwind Quintet No.1 to a great extent. No.1 lays more weight on the sound and timbre of five instruments blended into one another, experimenting with sound, rather than on the individual qualities of the instruments are clearly distinguished. Namely, doubling of instruments, unison, harmonic juxtaposition of important figures, homophonic texture which distinguishes between fore- and background, and polyphonic developments etc. appear in this piece, making the music more lively.
