After “September”, I had not produced any orchestral work, ongoing a sort of sentimental recovery. But as time went by, I was finally more at ease with myself as well as my thought. Reflecting upon the famous slogan “Back to BACH” I thought about returning to old classical forms and, after forty years of creative activities, I suddenly found myself attracted to old baroque forms, Choral and Passacaglia.
“Choral” is based on a melody which is built upon the cycle of fifths where the absence of the leading tone is prominent. On the other hand, “Passacaglia” explores the intervals derived from the note G and uses them as a means of horizontal and vertical expansions. The fanfare in the introductory section is both an outburst of anger one experiences in real life and a paradoxal dilemma connecting two worlds ours and Bach’s
