이 작품은 1985년 제 17회 서울음악제 위촉으로 쓰여져 그해 11월 초연되었고 다음해에 제8회 대한민국 작곡상을 수상 하였다. 또한 1986년 9월 암스텔담에서 열린 Gaudeamus 주최 국제 작곡가 세미나에서 발표되었고 1990년 10월에 모스크바에서도 연주되었다. 3악장으로 구성했으며 1악장은 8개의 불협화음으로 한국의 농악 리듬을 썼고 향토색 짙은 민족성을 그렸다. 2악장은 “한(恨)”으로 옛날 한국 여인들의 마음속에 잠긴 슬픔, 고통, 비애를 그렸고 3악장은 여인들의 한(恨)이 대장간의 뜨거운 불꽃처럼 강열하게 터지는 것을 원시적 모습으로 나타냈다.

Awarded the 8th Republic of Korea Composer's prize of the Korean Ministry of culture, this piece was completed in July 1985, being commissioned by the organizer of the 17th Seoul Music Festival.This piece was first executed at the Seoul Festival in 1985 and also at Moscow in 1990. It was Presented at the "International Composer's Workshop 1986" sponsored by the Gaudeamus Assoiation in Amsterdam.The Sonata is in 3 movements. The first movement starts off with 8 dissonances and uses Korean Farmer's music rhythms, rich in local color, this movement expresses the simple feast style of Korean people. The second movement discribes "HAN"(Grief) of Korean Wome, Unfolding feelings of pain, sorrow, distress confined in the heart of the Korea Women under the weight of tradition.The Third movement depicts hammering hot iron at a blacksmith and releases the tension built in the 2nd movement This movement is shamanic is character.
