「전원협주곡」(Concerto Pastorale for Flute and Orchestra 2017)의 작품소재는 창작주제와 마을 끝자락에서 전원생활을 하며 들리는 자연의 소리, 즉 계절 따라 들을 수 있는 각종 새소리, 곤충소리, 가축 소리 등을 채보해두었던 것과 어린 시절부터 농촌에서 듣고 자란 농부들의 농악을 소재로 하고, 전원풍경을 묘사하는 대표적인 악기인 플루트(Hirten Flote/목동의 피리)등 세 가지 요소를 결합하여 협주곡 형식으로 작곡하였으므로 「전원협주곡」이라 제목을 붙였다.
제1악장은 3부분형식의 자유로운 소나타 형식으로 작곡하였다. 제2악장은 서로 다른 3부분형식구조(ABC)와 Cadenza로 되어있습니다. 2악장에서는 가야금과 거문고의 음색을 현대적 기법을 사용하여 모든 현악기는 각각 독주악기로 취급하여(divisi) 마치 거문고와 가야금의 오케스트라 소리가 나게 하였다. 그리고 전통과는 달리 2악장에서 Flute의 화려한 Cadenza를 연주하며 다양한 음색잔치가 펼쳐진다. 제3악장은 농악이다. 농부들의 즐거운 춤마당이다. 이른바 사물놀이라는 장구, 꽹과리, 북, 징이 등장한다. 이악장의 형식구조는 느리게 시작해서 각종 농악장단이 이어지면서 점점 빨라져 최고조에 이르는 구조이다. 느린 길군악으로 시작해서 반길군악, 별거리 달거리, 덧뵈기, 법구놀이, 쌍진풀이 맺음가락으로 최고조에 달하면서 곡이 끝난다.
작품해설(영문)
The creative inspiration for “Concerto Pastorale for Flute and Orchestra (2017)” came from the sounds that are familiar to those who live in a farming village—the sound of nature composed of the chirpings of birds that change from season to season, the sound of insects and the cries of animals, as well as the sound of Nongak. Added to the mix was the flute, an instrument that beautifully expresses a bucolic landscape (Hirten Flote/ shepherd’s flute).
These three different elements came together to create this “Concerto Pastorale.” Composed in three parts, the first movement takes the form of an unrestricted sonata. The second movement is composed of different ternary patterns and a cadenza, featuring Korea’s traditional string instruments, gayageum and geomungo, which are played with contemporary techniques. All string instruments receive their own subsections like a solo instrument (divisi to create a musical sound of a gayageum and geomungo orchestra. Deviating from the convention, the second movement features an extravagant flute cadenza to create a rich festive of melodies. The third movement features Nongak and creates an exciting dance festive of farmers, complete with samnul nori instruments: from Kkwaenggwari (a small gong), Jing (a larger gong), Janggu (an hourglass-shaped drum) to Buk (drum). It begins slowly but climaxes as different kinds of Nongak rhythms come together to accelerate the pace. After the opening with the slow “Gilgun Akeung,” it picks up the pace through “Bangil Gunak,” “Byeolgeori, Dalgeori,” “Deotboeugi” and “Beopgu Nori” and finales with the closing melodies of “Ssangjin Puri.”
