작품해설

이 곡은 아쟁의 찰현에서 오는 일반적인 음색에서 벗어나 보고자 다양한 각도와 현의 마찰에서 생겨나는 또 다른 음색의 탐구를 의도한 곡이다.

아쟁의 거칠고 부드러운 음색, 따뜻하고 차가운 음색, 굵고 가는 음색과 발현에서 오는 또 하나의 다른 음색을 관현악의 지속음(持續音)과 함께 공간에서의 다양한 음색이 어떠한 음향(音響)으로 변화해 가는지를 느껴 보고자 한다.

작품해설(영문)

This requiem makes a creative attempt to break away from the conventional sound of the ajaeng, which is created by rubbing the strings. Various angles and techniques for rubbing were explored to produce a sound different from what we recognize as the sound of an ajaeng.

Against the sustained sound of the orchestra, I juxtaposed the broad range of the sounds of the ajaeng—from rough to smooth, from cold to warm, from low or high—as well as the sounds made by plucking the strings to explore how the different tones come together, blend in and develop into a sound that is unique and unconventional.
