“HAE-JO-EUM (Music created by the ocean)” is a piece which symbolizes the ocean. Whenever I visited the coast, I was always mesmerized by its charm and magic and each time I made sketches of its many facets it revealed to me in different ways. This work is the final outcome of those sketches. They appear roughly in the following order: ‘Sunrise’ - Waves rushing on’ - ‘The Fishermen’s movement’ - ‘Departure (of the ships)’ - ‘Storm’ - ‘ Outrage of the ocean’ - ‘Deadly silence’ - ‘Sunset’ - ‘ Incredible loneliness of the ocean at night’. Although the piece may sound like a descriptive music, it is far from being one. True, it relies on circumstantial images, but the result is a pure, abstract music. I tried to reproduce these images as I received them, without emphasizing the techniques nor the musical style used.
