작사자 김홍렬은 이 시를 쓰고, 다음과 같이 말한다. "한 인간의 탄생과 성장, 그리고 완숙에 이르는 여정은 마치 계절의 변화와도 같다. 인생과 계절, 우주의 섭리를 네 편의 음악과 시로 담아 표현하고 싶다. 첫 편에는 오랜 기다림의 과정을, 태아와 엄마의 신비로운 교감을(겨울), 둘째 편에서는 탄생의 감격, 봄의 환희, 창조의 희열을(봄), 셋째 편에서는 여름 장마와 폭풍우의 강렬함을, 질풍노도의 시기를(여름), 마지막 편에서는 그 모든 과정 끝에 돌아와 이제는 사랑으로 그리움으로 남은 기쁨을(가을) 표현하고 싶다. " 나인용은 시인의 시상이 잘 담긴 작품이 되도록 우리의 정서가 깃든 서정성이 있는 음악으로 만들어 내었다.

The poet of the work writes the following. "The journey form birth to growth, from immaturity to maturity of a human being greatly resembles that of four seasons. I would like to portray life, four seasons, and the principles of the cosmos in these four successive poems. The first poem expresses a long waiting and a myserious engagement between mother and child(Winter). The second describes the overflowing joy of birth, harppiness of Spring, and the ecstasy of creation(Spring). The third poem talks abput the strength of the rainy season and the fierce storm. The last, finally, depicts pure joy of love and yearning that is achieved only through the paths portrayed in the previous three poems." Hoping to retain the messages and the iages of the poem, La created a highly lyrical melody whose association with Korean traditional thought and culture is evident.
