A piece premiered by myself in 2007, this work consists of eight: theme, variations 1 and 2, interlude, variations 3-5, and finale. The rhythm combines both odd and even numbered beats, with the former predominating. (6/8, 6/8, 6/8, 6/8, 3/4, 2/4, 4/4, 9/8, 6/8)
Each section has its own rhythmic and expressive motif which is maintained throughout the section. Each section also repeats its main introductory theme at the end, for a nice finishing touch. This work features vibration, jeongseong, note bending, glissande, harmonics, syncopation of 2-4 notes, and chromatic progression. It combines traditional Gayageum techniques with the techniques of Western music. However, I have emphasized the characteristics of Korean traditional music and what is unique to Gayageum music.
Unlike other pieces by the composer, such as "Sinbyeolgok", "Myeong" and "Jeongchwi" for Gayageum, this work is more like a suite, with each movement resembling an atude. Differing from his other, more calm and peaceful compositions, this particular work is characterized by its cheerfulness and lightness.
